EastWI_v1.zip ------------ Eastern Wisconsin Scenery (includes the previously released WashCo_v1) For Microsoft Flight Simulator For Win 95 & FS98 By Steve Gonwa GENERAL INFORMATION ------------------- Eastern Wisconsin Scenery is a freeware scenery package for use with Microsoft's FS for Win 95 and Flight Simulator 98. Covering an area over 200 square miles, the scenery extends from the north edge of Milwaukee to the Fox Valley region and west from Lake Michigan to Waupaca. Fifteen airports are included: Berlin Field (45C) Brennand (79C) Dodge County (UNU) Fond du Lac County (FLD) Grob Airport (50C) Hahn Sky Ranch (W108) Hartford Muni (HXF) Manitowoc County (MTW) New Holstein Muni (8D1) Omro - Skydive Adventures (64WI) Oshkosh - Wittman Regional (OSH) Outagamie County (ATW) Sheboygan County Memorial (SBM) Waupaca Muni (PCZ) West Bend Muni (ETB) Each airport has been rendered in detail with accurate runways, taxiways and nearly all hangars and buildings represented. Oshkosh in particular has been rendered in great detail with many of the EAA buildings and hangars represented. Also rendered in the scenery are over 90 cities and villages, 50 lakes, marshes, most major highways as well as many county and town roads that are situated near the airports. IMPORTANT ! This scenery is very processor intensive. To view all of the above features you will need to set your scenery density setting to DENSE. There is one exception... to view all of the features at Oshkosh, you need to set your scenery density setting to VERY DENSE. FILES INCLUDED WITH EastWIv1 SCENERY ------------------------------------ EastWI_v1.txt ( the file you are now reading ) EastWI_2.bgl EastWI_3.bgl EastWI_4.bgl EastWI_5.bgl EastWI_5_01.bgl EastWI_5_02.bgl EastWI_5_03.bgl Museum.bgl blacktop.r8 Hou100.api Osk1.det Osk2.det Osk3.det Osk4.det Osk5.det Osk6.det Osk7.det pklot.r8 pklot2.r8 pklot3.r8 pklot4.r8 tree11.api tree12.api tree13.api vodoshk1.pat vodoshk2.pat vodoshk3.pat vodoshk4.pat vodoshk9.pat Optional Files farm.r8 farms.r8 farmf.r8 farmw.r8 These files replace the default "farm" texture tiles provided in the Flight Simulator TEXTURE folder. I have repainted the "farm" tiles so that their edges match and blend in with the edges of the default "crops" tile. The result is a much smoother transition between tiles and a much more interesting and varied landscape. TEXTURE FILES NEEDED TO RUN EastWI_v1 SCENERY --------------------------------------------- This scenery was designed using Airport & Scenery Designer version 1.1 from Abacus ( www.abacuspub.com ). A number of VOD 2.7 macros were used in the scenery. If you do not already have them, you will need to download the texture files from asdtextu.zip and vodtex27.zip to use EastWI_v1. These files are readily available through various flight sim websites. I also offer a link to these files from my own website listed below. These texture files should be added to your Flight Simulator TEXTURES folder following the instructions included with the files. INSTALLATION ------------ FOR FS98 AND FS6 USERS: Note: Prior to adding third party sceneries, it's a good idea to backup your WORLD.VIS file from the Flight Simulator SCENERY directory. This is in case there are conflicts and you need to restore your world settings. EastWI_v1 includes the previously released WashCo_v1 scenery package. Delete WashCo_v1 files from your Flight Simulator scenery prior to installing EastWI_v1. From Windows Explorer, locate the SCENERY folder under Flight Simulator. Create a new folder within the SCENERY folder and name it "EastWI" ( without the apostrophes ). Within the EastWI folder, create two additional folders entitled "Scenery" and "Texture" ( again, without the apostrophes ). It is important to name these folders exactly as "Scenery" and "Texture" because Flight Simulator will look for these exact file names. The file structure at this point should look like this: C:\...\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator Scenery EastWI Scenery Texture Unzip the EastWI_v1.zip file. Copy all of the bgl files to the EastWI Scenery folder. Copy all of the det, api and pat files to the EastWI Texture folder. Copy the blacktop and all four pklot r8 files to the EastWI Texture folder This text file may be copied to the EastWI folder for future reference. Optional ( recommended ): Copy the four farm r8 files to the FLIGHT SIMULATOR TEXTURE folder ( not the EastWI texture folder ). You will be asked if you want to replace the existing farm files. Answer "yes" to each file replacement. Before you replace the farm r8 files, back them up onto a floppy disk or into a temporary directory in the event that you wish to revert back to the original farm r8 textures. You may also find the original files by exploring the Flight Simulator CD-ROM. USING EASTERN WISCONSIN SCENERY IN FLIGHT SIMULATOR --------------------------------------------------- You will need to enter the SCENERY LIBRARY inside Flight Simulator: Start up Flight Simulator and select WORLD > SCENERY LIBRARY Clear the warning message by clicking on OK Select FILES Select ADD In the SCENERY AREA PATH, type in the following ( exactly ): C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator\Scenery\EastWI\Scenery\*.bgl This is assuming that you have installed Flight Simulator to the default installation directory. If you installed it elsewhere, the line should reflect the path to the actual installation directory for Flight Simulator. The remaining boxes in the screen should now be active. Type "Eastern Wisconsin" in the SCENERY AREA TITLE box In the SCENERY AREA TYPE box select LOCAL Activate the EastWI scenery by clicking on the SCENERY AREA ACTIVE button Select OK EastWI scenery should now be listed as the 001 scenery layer. Select "OK" three times and you're done. For FS98 users, go to the EastWI airports by selecting WORLD > GO TO > AIRPORT Click on SCENERY FROM 6.0 AND BEFORE Click on Eastern Wisconsin in the right window The airports will be listed in the left window ( EastWI airports will not be listed in the default FS98 Wisconsin directory ) For FS6 users, go to the EastWI airports by selecting WORLD > GO TO AIRPORT Under SCENERY AREA select Eastern Wisconsin Under AIRPORT select the desired airport and runway COMPATIBILITY AND KNOWN PROBLEMS -------------------------------- EastWI scenery has been made compatible with John Voznak's Western Wisconsin Scenery ( currently WWIS2.zip ) which covers nearly the entire western half of the State of Wisconsin. It is a highly recommended package. I have experienced a problem with a floating runway at the Hahn Sky Ranch Airport. The runway may appear to float above the ground as you approach from a distance and then settle to the correct altitude as you draw closer. Because this scenery is processor intensive, you may have to adjust the density of the scenery settings in Flight Simulator to find a setting that gives you an acceptable framerate and performance level for your system. AIRPORT NAVIGATION INFORMATION ------------------------------ Useful information on each of the airports included in EastWI_v1 scenery can be found in the AIRPORTS directory at www.airnav.com ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS ---------------- John Voznak for his invaluable assistance during the development of this scenery, for use of his VOD antenna macro file and for making Western Wisconsin Scenery compatibile with EastWI_v1 Rafael Sanchez for his permission to use his incredible EAA Museum macro file. Look for it on the EAA grounds at Oshkosh - Wittman Field.
